Letter from the publisher — Special Edition

Town and school meetings and voter guide

Posted

Hooksett neighbors,

This issue of The Hooksett Bridge is a special edition dedicated entirely to the upcoming Town and School Meeting ballot. Voting Day is Tuesday, March 10, and this paper was created with one goal in mind: to help you walk into Cawley Middle School informed, prepared, and confident in your vote.

Local government can feel complicated. Warrant articles are often written in legal language. Budgets are filled with numbers that can be difficult to interpret. And for many residents, finding the time to attend meetings, read lengthy reports, or research every issue simply isn’t realistic.

That’s where we come in.

This edition is designed to break down the most significant issues facing Hooksett voters in a format that is clear, consistent, and easy to understand. While we are not able to write a full feature on every single warrant article, we have carefully selected the items that involve the most money and carry the greatest impact for residents and taxpayers.

Inside this issue, you will find coverage of:

• Contested races for Town Council, School Board, and Budget Committee

• The Tax Increment Financing (TIF) District and how it works

• The proposed school bond

• Union contracts and wage increases

• Key zoning changes

• The Town and School operating budgets

Each major story follows the same structure:

What is it? How did we get here? What does it cost? What are the pros? What are the cons? What happens if it passes — and if it fails?

Our goal is not to tell you how to vote. Our goal is to make sure you understand what you are voting on.

Government decisions affect your property taxes, your schools, your public safety services, and the long-term direction of our community. An informed voter is an empowered voter — and a stronger Hooksett is built by residents who are engaged in the process.

Voting will take place at David R. Cawley Middle School on Tuesday, March 10. Polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Same-day voter registration is available; please bring appropriate identification.

Thank you for reading The Hooksett Bridge. Thank you for caring about our town. And we look forward to seeing you at the polls.
